Some information on Theology of the Body …
The sexual embrace is the foundation stone of human life. The family and, in turn, human society itself spring from this embrace. In short, as sex goes, so go marriage and the family. As marriage and the family go, so goes civilization. - Christopher West
Theology of the Body refers to a series of 129 lectures given by Pope John Paul II during his Wednesday audiences in the Pope Paul VI Hall between September 1979 and November 1984. It was the first major teaching of his pontificate and the complete addresses were later compiled and published as a single work: The Theology of the Body: Human Love in the Divine Plan – the first major teaching project of his pontificate.
The John Paul II’s 'Theology of the Body' provides answers to questions such as
- Is there a real purpose to life and if so, what is it?
- Why were we created male and female? Does it really matter if we are one sex or another
- Why were man and woman called to communion from the beginning? What does the marital union of a man and woman say to us about God and his plan for our lives?
- What is the purpose of the married and celibate vocations?
- What exactly is "Love"?
- Is it truly possible to be pure of heart?
His reflections are based on Scripture (especially the Gospels, St. Paul and the Book of Genesis), and contain a vision of the human person truly worthy of man. John Paul II discusses who man was in the beginning, who he is now (after original sin), and who he will be in the age to come. He then applies this message to the vocations of marriage and celibacy, in preparation for the Kingdom of Heaven.
Here’s what some Catholic voices have to say about Christopher’s work …
Christopher West is “a prophet of the sexual counter-revolution”
The National Catholic Register
Christopher West’s keen grasp of John Paul II’s theology of the body and his ability to make it accessible to others is changing lives, strengthening marriages, and renewing people’s faith in the Church across the country and internationally. He is on the front lines of the new evangelization and his message should be heard by all.
Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. Archbishop of Denver
“This can radically change the way you look at the world for the rest of your life.”
“It was like an arm of light that reached down in the black abyss I’ve been trying to climb out of.”
“This is truth that all people long to hear....”
“...renewed my faith in Christ and the Catholic Church.”
“For once life makes sense. Christopher’s talks have given me a new foundation to build upon.”

"Brace yourself! If we take in what the Holy Father is saying in his Theology of the Body, we will never view ourselves, view others, view the Church, the Sacraments, grace, God, heaven, marriage, the celibate vocation...we will never view the world the same way again."
