The Archdiocesan Commission for Education is primarily responsible for all matters relating to Catholic Education in the Catholic and Government Schools in Trinidad and Tobago. The Episcopal Delegate for Education is the spokesperson for Archdiocesan Catholic Education, liaises with the Archbishop and maintains a close working relationship with the Catholic Education Board of Management (Primary), The Association of Principals of Catholic Schools and the Association of Catholic Education.

The Episcopal Delegate also liaises with the Ministry of Education with respect to grants for Government Assisted Primary Schools and oversees Religious Education in all Catholic Schools and Government Schools where Catholic Religious Education is taught.

About The Episcopal Delegate

Hazel ReisHazel Reis (nee Rodrigues) is a past principal of St Joseph’s Convent St Joseph and Episcopal Delegate for the Archdiocesan Commission for Education. Mrs Reis began her teaching career at the age of nineteen at St Joseph’s Convent St Joseph and remained there until her retirement as principal in February 2003.

Mrs Reis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University off the West Indies, a Teacher’s Diploma and a Diploma in Education. She was a member of the Secondary School Teachers Association of Trinidad and Tobago (STATT) from 1962-1982 and from 1993-2003 was a member of the Association of Principals of Public Secondary Schools. Mrs Reis has been a cabinet appointed member on both the Concordat Committee as well as the Textbook Evaluation Committee.

From 1962 to 2003 Mrs Reis has participated in several professional development courses and has attended Caribbean Association for Principals of Secondary Schools (CAPSS) conferences on education in Jamaica, Belize and Barbados. A competent teacher and principal, Mrs Reis has been instrumental in promoting effective team management and motivation strategies for both staff and students. The mother of four has been a devoted teacher and mentor to the students of St Joseph’s Convent, St Joseph over the years.

In her portfolio as Episcopal Delegate For Education, she brings her passion for teaching, her knowledge of the issues, which face schools today, and her years of experience in the field of Education.
